THE WORDS

By mimicking, “letters” take on new meaning.

The existence of words is like a conceptual art in itself. It is like a conceptual art in itself. It has been handed down from our ancestors for tens of thousands of years. People are amazed, deceived, and reassured by the existence of words. In this series, the artist reinterprets the meaning of letters and depicts them as if they had that meaning, reinterpreting the meaning of meaningless things so that they can be perceived as having meaning, and appealing to the viewer with new values. By utilizing the mimetic nature of letters, if there are cartoon drawings of letters, he also pursues the idea of “letters” as time sculptures by writing directly on old paper, textiles, tatami mats, and other materials to bring “time” in the background into the work.
