A form of love looked at from diverse perspectives
The various kinds of love we encounter in our lives. I focused on that love. For example, Soseki Natsume abbreviated the phrase “I love you.” to “The moon is beautiful. In the “I love you.” work, which uses this scene as a motif, the moon is expressed as a semi-3-dimensional sculpture. The viewer’s appreciation of the work, even the act of looking at it and loving it, is considered “part of the work,” suggesting to the viewer a uniquely Japanese form of love. The work using lacquer, which has been used for vessels since ancient times, depicts the “presence of love” in a Western abstract manner, using Klimt’s kisses as a motif.
東洋や西洋、多様な視点から見る、愛の形
私たちが人生で出会う、様々な愛。その愛に着目した。例えば、夏目漱石が「I love you.」という言葉を「月が綺麗ですね」と略した。この情景をモチーフとした「I love you.」という作品では、月を半立体的に彫刻として表現した。作品を見て、愛でる姿までを「作品の一部」として捉え、鑑賞者に日本ならではの愛の形を提案する。漆を媒体にした作品では、日本古来から器などに扱われてきた漆を使い、クリムトの接吻などをモチーフに抽象的に西洋的な「愛の存在」を描いている。
